Some makers of beta glucan warn that taking too
much could possibly be harmful. I found no research
to support this statement . in fact I found just the opposite is true:
FDA has given (pure)
beta glucan a
G.R.A.S. rating. This means that no toxicity has been displayed at any dosage.
A search of MEDLINE (National Library of Science) revealed eleven pages of human studies of beta glucan given orally and effective against several types of diseases, including cancer. (All were large milligram doses, averaging 3000 mg).
Not one single human study revealed a 3, 5, 7.5, 10, 20 or any other micro-dose
of beta glucan to be of any effect for humans.
Numerous peer reviewed studies showed that in order to have a maximum effect on an adult immune response, for serious medical conditions, should take the equivalent of 25 mg per kilogram of body weight. This is approximately 500 mg. per 50 lbs of body weight (take your body weight and add a zero to get the recommended milligrams per day for a serious health condition).
